Forged in the same fires as our famous Liberty Bell, The Christ Church Great Bell still carries the sound of our country’s revolution. It once sat atop the bell tower of Christ Church and rang to inspire the ideals of equality and call worshipers to sermon. For a time, it lay underwater, hidden from the enemy, and now awaits a new home to ring for future generations. This design proposal offers a restrained and modest addition to the north courtyard of Christ Church, offering context and continuity for the many visitors that will learn the bell’s story. This new location will allow the Great Bell to be a tangible and approachable record of our shared history.
